Young adults with AD/HD can encounter overwhelming challenges when they go off to college. Even those who were strong students in high school may find the demands of college life quite daunting. It is not unusual for students with AD/HD to experience a first episode of depression during their first one to two years of college.
At ADD Austin we offer a package of services tailored to the unique needs of each student. Services are offered on a semester basis and include:
- Planning strategies
- Study skills
- Assistance with writing papers
- Working with the college or university to ensure appropriate accommodations (e.g., extended time for exams)
- Stress reduction and management of “test anxiety”
- Regular meetings with an ADD Austin staff member to monitor mood and other signs of risk
- Phone, e-mail or text contact between meetings
- Coordinating with the student’s psychiatrist or other physician
- And much more!
